Sunday writing... 2-24-19... "TOMORROW"

Good morning!

Today's writing "TOMORROW" is the final in our series about light.  We started with the Bethlehem star pointing to Jesus as the Light of the whole world and being a light in the darkness even before the world began. Then we moved to God creating day and night, the sun, moon and stars and all of God's creation reflecting his light.  We went on to light and shadows, our walking in darkness vs in the light, and how we walk together in the light and our light is seen by others.  Now we wrap up the writings on the “light” theme with a look into the future.

Blessings,
Jan

Today's Devotional:

"TOMORROW"

by
Jan Andersen

Night time and day time are opposites.  Night time is between dusk and dawn, the time between when  the sun sets and then rises again.  Day time is the opposite, between dawn and dusk.  One is thought about as dark, the other as light.  But even during the night, there is some light given off by the moon and stars, depending upon how much cloud cover there is.  Even the moon varies as it waxes and wanes.  The same goes for the light during the day, whether it is completely sunny and bright or some other weather event occurs.  Eclipses of the sun and moon also change the amount of light to some degree, albeit briefly.  Each day and night with their variable light still hold the promise of a new amount of light tomorrow.

As we go through our lives, we go through times like the light of day with happiness, excitement, celebrations and just general good times.  Those include things like passing that final exam, graduating from school, landing that good job, enjoying our friends and family when there are good relationships, and so forth.  But we also experience dark times as well with sadness, mourning, tragedy and generally difficult times.  We struggle with bad relationships, break-ups, losses of all kinds, death of loved ones and the like.  Jet black darkness may seem like it will never lift when one experiences severe depression, addictions, terminal illness, and permanent losses.  Sometimes we don't want to see another tomorrow, just to suffer some more.

As hard as it may be to believe, everything has a beginning and an end, even the darkest of times. There is always the hope of a better tomorrow.  Everything on this earth cycles through like day time to night time and back to day time.  You may be thinking, "But some things are permanent and never cycle back."  The only thing you can really say is permanent is life after death!  So even the deepest darkest of times on earth will be followed by exuberant life in heaven for those who remain faithful on earth.  Trust God to bring light into your darkness.  No more ups and downs, no more day and night, but best of all - no more sorrow!  We will be forever bathed in the light of the Son - Christ Jesus.  It will be the best tomorrow ever!

The sun will no more be your light by day, nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you, for the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory. Your sun will never set again, and your moon will wane no more; the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your days of sorrow will end. Isaiah 60: 19-20 (NIV)

Dear Father in heaven, we thank you for the death and resurrection of your Son, Jesus, to give us forgiveness and salvation.  Help us to see that there is a sunny tomorrow awaiting us at the end of this life, no matter how hard and dark it may seem today.  Help us to lay our burdens at your feet and to remain faithful, trusting in your will and your timing.  In Jesus' name, Amen.
