Wednesday Writing...12/19/18..."Hospitality to Angels"

Good morning,

The writing today is about angels and how they are sent to earth by God to perform assignments for Him. The stories that people have shared about angels who help them out of a challenge or save them from danger. The writer of this devotional shared a personal encounter that happened when she was a small child in the 40's. She and her cousin were facing a danger in which they most probably would have died. Here is a quote from this devotional, "I truly believe that that woman saved Sally's and my life that day. I believe that she was an angel that was sent by God to rescue us. When you read stories about angels that have helped people when the job is done they disappear and are nowhere to be seen. Fascinating!"

If you were to have an angel intervention, you would probably recognize it. Angels come frequently to do God's work. Look for such an experience, and do not be afraid.

Alive sixty-nine years later.

Today's Devotional

"Hospitality to Angels"
Written by
Corinne Mustafa

Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters.
Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers,
for by so doing some people have shown
hospitality to angels without knowing it.
Hebrews 13:1-2

I read "The Word for You Today" daily. It is a devotional that our church provides for us four times a year. Today's writing was about someone who had help from an angel in a time of need. I felt drawn in by the story. I hunted for an angel picture and the one above seemed lovely to me. However, angels are about the business of serving God on jobs He has given them. I doubt that most of the time angels are a fluffy as the beauty pictured.

I have my own angel encounter that I have decided to share. The year was 1949. Summer was over and school was to start the next day. My mom and her sister decided to take my cousin and I to one last trip to the beach. It was closed, so there were no lifeguards. We were at a beach near Stone Bridge in Tiverton, RI. We splashed into the water and suddenly my cousin stepped into a channel by the bridge. She was dog paddling and yelling like crazy. Though I was four years younger I yelled, "Don't worry Sally I will get you." The next thing I knew I was in the channel with her paddling with near her. My mother was afraid of water and only made it to the water's edge. After it was over only the toe of her sneaker was wet.  My aunt was a large woman and would not have been able to do much.

Suddenly there was a middle aged woman fully dressed in what used to be called a house dress, a boned corset, nylons and high heel "teacher shoes" running down to the water's edge. She yelled to our mothers not to worry she would get us. She jumped into the water and swam out to us. She grabbed us, swam out of the channel, and put each of us under one of her arms. She walked out of the water, handed each of us to our own mother, and suggested that they give us a strong rub with a beach towel. Our mothers took to ministering to us. After all, they did not want us to catch pneumonia, and the next day was the first day of school. It would be a total disaster if we could not go. They rubbed us til our skin was bright red and finally stopped.

A couple of  minutes later, when they had calmed down, they finally remembered their manners and looked for the woman. There was not a soul on the beach but my family. The woman was nowhere to be seen...not even in the parking lot. My mother lamented that she had wanted to give her some money to pay for the damage to her clothing. Then we piled in the car, and headed home. It was always a mystery to my mom and my aunt where the woman had come from and where she had gone.

I truly believe that that woman saved Sally's and my life that day. I believe that she was an angel that was sent by God to rescue us. When you read stories about angels that have helped people when the job is done they disappear and are nowhere to be seen. Fascinating!

Back to the appearance of angels. When doing this kind of task they look like an ordinary person dressed like people do in the time when they are working. I said that I did not think that angels are all fluffy all the time. Sometimes the work they are called on to do is tough and would require attire fitting to the job.

Soon we will be celebrating the birth of the most important Gift that we have ever received. The Bible says that there were a host of angels in the field announcing what had happened to the shepherds and telling them where to go to see this miracle. If angels ever were fluffy that might be the time. They might have been gussied up for this important duty for God. Who knows, but it is wonderful to ponder on.

Angels in Order

There are nine orders, or groups, of angels that surround God. These nine are further divided into groups of three, or triads. The angels in the first triad communicate directly with God, then pass their knowledge on to the second triad, who pass it on to the third triad, who pass it on to human beings. Here is the order of angels, from highest to
lowest.

First Triad

SeraphimCherubimThrones
Angels closest to God who appear to humans with 6 wings and 4 heads. They are angels of love.God's charioteers who have 4 wings and 4 heads. They are angels of knowledge.Huge, they are known as “many-eyed ones.” They make up God's chariot.

Second Triad

Angel Lore

Hell's angels are fallen angels, now the devils and demons of the underworld.
One named Zephon planned to set fire to heaven but was cast out before
succeeding.

Angel music
is thought to be the vibration of the universe, the song of creation and life. Angels make music with their voices and by beating their wings.Angel wings,
as painted by the great artists, were modeled after large and beautiful birds such as eagles and swans.
Angel dress is almost always a long, flowing robe of blue or white with gold belts
and gold jewelry.

Angels speak all languages, and always know which ones humans
will understand.
Angel fever peaked in the 13th century, when angels were thought
to move the stars and govern the planets, seasons, months, days
and and hours.
