This writing is titled, "SURROUNDED BY GOD'S LOVE," and was written by Cathy Friberg. She writes about how people desire to be surrounded, in fact attached, to God. Many meditate on the wonders of God and other aspects of him. Cathy wrote, "Yes, the Lord does indeed use our five senses as a way to impart His offerings of benevolence to us. I just wanted to share this thought as we all enjoy the blessings of the Spring Season. May we be aware of God's constant expressions of His kindness to us each day." "SURROUNDED BY GOD'S LOVE"
I attend a women's Aglow prayer and worship group each month. We meet at a member's home for a lovely time of fellowship. At these gatherings we engage in a practice known as "soaking." We sit silently with eyes closed as we listen to soft anointed Christian music. It is a time of basking in God's presence as we allow the Holy Spirit to minister to us. At the conclusion of our worship time, we each share any impressions, words or visions we may have received from the Lord. Rita, one of our gals, reported that God showed her that He uses our five senses to minister His love to us. While this is fairly obvious, it is something that I have never heard articulated so precisely before.
Rita gave some examples of her revelation concerning our five senses as avenues of God's love. For instance, we hear and enjoy the sound of a beautiful symphony, a rippling brook, or a rushing waterfall with our ears. The conversation of friends or the laughter children are also beautiful expressions of the Father's love for us. These treasures are all presented to us through our sense of hearing.
The Lord uses our sense of touch to bless us with a clean hot shower. We also savor the comfort of being wrapped in a soft warm blanket on a chilly evening. Petting a downy kitten or feeling the embrace of a loved one are luxuries we experience through the medium of touch.
Of course, our visual sense brings us untold delight each and every day. Nature abounds with the beauty of God's handiwork! Our Creator provides us with glorious sunsets, exquisite flowers, majestic trees, mountains and waterfalls, and the grandeur of oceans, rivers and seas.
Even our sense of smell brings us pleasure. The aroma of warm bread or cookies baking can be euphoric. The fragrance of the earth after a rain is a welcome pleasure.
Taste is a sense which brings us such joy. Our favorite foods and drink are welcome gifts from the Father. A steaming cup of hot chocolate, a well crafted Italian lasagna, or the refreshing taste of ice cold watermelon are all culinary pleasures which make us appreciate our God given sense of taste.
Yes, the Lord does indeed use our five senses as a way to impart His offerings of benevolence to us. I just wanted to share this thought as we all enjoy the blessings of the Spring Season. May we be aware of God's constant expressions of His kindness to us each day. Let us give Him thanks and praise for the comfort, peace, pleasure and refreshment which he bestows on us in this our earthly journey. May we be aware of how much God cherishes us and how he reaches out to us in innumerable ways.
"And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love,
may have power, together with all the Lord's holy people,
to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ."
Ephesians 3:17-18
As Christians we are able to see God's bountiful hand in our lives and circumstances. May we seek out the lost of humanity through our love and prayers. Father, please help us to expand the Kingdom of light and blessing to those who do not yet have "eyes to see nor ears to hear."
