"MAKING A DIFFERENCE"

"Meaningless!
Meaningless! Says the Teacher.
Utterly meaningless!
Everything is meaningless."
Ecclesiastes 1:2
I always wondered about starting a book of the Bible with this statement. Then I got to thinking about all of the lessons in this book. So I have a couple of questions for you to see if you, an average person like myself, can answer them. Which team won the Superbowl in 1990? Who has won the most Oscars? Who won best actor and actress last year? What was the most popular song in 2000?
Now try these questions. Who was your favorite teacher in school? Who did you look up to most as you were growing up because of the person's guidance for you? What was the name of your first pet? If you're like me, I couldn't answer any of the first questions but could immediately tell you all answers to the second set.
Want to know why? We remember those who care for us and those who mean something to us. The rest of the world passes away and winners are soon forgotten. We remember people and pets who made a difference in our lives, who contributed to molding us into the persons we have become.
This is even more true of our relationship with God -- the One who created us, redeemed us, and has prepared an eternal home for us in heaven. Life is only meaningful in the end, and we will only have true satisfaction with our lives when we have a relationship with the living Lord. It is the connection with Him that makes all the difference.
The topic today is the importance of making a difference whenever possible. We forget events but remember those who do something that has made a difference. Carol wrote, "Life is only meaningful in the end, and we will only have true satisfaction with our lives when we have a relationship with the living Lord. It is the connection with Him that makes all the difference."
May you have a blessed December that honors
"The Reason for the Season."
