This is the third writing about light, and the title is "LIGHTS IN THE SKY." The first writing was about Epiphany and the star that guided the magi to Bethlehem. The second was about light in the darkness and how the pre-incarnate Jesus, the Word, was with God in the beginning before the creation of the world and was planned to be our Savior. Today's writing is about the time of creation.
May your days be blessed,
Jan

"LIGHTS IN THE SKY"
by
Jan Andersen
Late tonight there will be a “super blood wolf moon eclipse.” They call it a super moon because it is at its closest to earth, making it appear larger and brighter than usual. Native Americans called it a wolf moon because it is the first full moon of the year, during the time when wolves would howl more than usual in their winter hunger. Blood moon means the moon will appear reddish or copper in color when it is in the full shadow of the earth, because the sun is on the opposite side of our planet, creating the full eclipse of the moon in the night sky. Hence the name, super blood wolf moon eclipse.
In our lives there are times when we feel there is not only darkness and difficulties, but then an eclipse comes along and totally blocks our vision of the Son, the Light of the World. We may feel cut off, lost, or abandoned by God. Yet He is really there all along. He is just hidden by Satan standing in the way, casting his shadow on us. We stray away from God when we slip up and sin, which we all do in some way every day. Yet, we can rest assured that if we trust He is there and allow Him to hold on to us in our faith in Jesus' saving grace, we will see His light again and the blessings He has in store will unfold.
It is awesome how our earth, moon and sun are in this continuous dance of orbits and rotations with a certain tilt of the earth’s axis, all working together to create our repeating seasons, days and years. It makes many people wonder if there aren't other planets in the universe that could and do sustain life on them as well. Hence, our space exploration continues, further and further into the cosmos. Will they find anything living elsewhere?
What we do know is that God created this living earth and all the heavenly bodies in the sky. He designed our solar system so that we have brighter light over the hours we call day, and lesser light during what we call night. The intricacies of our world continue to unfold for us the more we study it. It is so amazing how it all works together to sustain life, how complicated each life form is, and how patterns repeat throughout His creation. All of creation testifies that there is a Master Designer. How could anyone think there is not a Great Creator of all?
Genesis 1: 1, 3-5, 14-18 ESV
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth… And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night…
And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth.” And it was so. And God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night—and the stars. And God set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.
Dear Father creator, we thank you for the beautiful living world that you designed, and the whole universe in which we reside. Help us to always acknowledge the awesomeness of Your power and yet also feel the gentleness of your loving touch in our lives. Most of all we thank you for your merciful forgiveness of our daily downfalls by grace through faith in the Light of the World, your Son. Finally, thank you for your helping hand lifting us back up, again and again, so that we might glorify You, who with the Spirit and the Son are one. Amen.
