Friday Writing...12/21/18..."The Gift"

Good morning,

Today's Writing considers the perfection of gifts that come to us during the Christmas season. in this time the wondrous gift that we receive is Jesus who was sent to us as a perfect gift by the Lord God to stand in for us in God's desire that none would be lost to receiving salvation and life everlasting with Him in eternity. Karen wrote, "When our day to enter heaven arrives, we will rejoice then as well. Our great joy never has to end, only get better and better. The closer we come to eternity, the more we look forward to it, the more anxious we become to see You, Father."

Thanking God for His perfect Gift.
Karen

Today's Devotional

"The Gift"
 Written by
Karen Bennett

The last 6 days we have found a surprise gift on our front doorstep first thing each morning. Each one designates one of the first six of the twelve days of Christmas and the gift it carries is a treat or something useful. Nothing like this has ever happened to me before. Not only is it a delightful surprise, it’s also very touching. I look forward to each day’s gift now. Of course, I have no idea who the instigator of this beautiful surprise is, but I do hope to find out on the twelfth day.

It’s always a delight to receive gifts. We received the greatest gift the world has ever known on that Christmas so long ago, when Christ our Savior was born to Mary, His mother, in a stable in Bethlehem. The Savior of the entire world born to us, given to us by His Father, our Lord God eternal, to reconcile us to Himself and save us from our sins. The Holy Spirit puts faith in our hearts and minds when we accept Jesus, and that in turn, through Jesus’ sacrifice, gives us another priceless gift - that of eternal life in the presence of our Lord in heaven.

Christmas is our great celebration,
 a time of great rejoicing.
We are told,however,
Rejoice in the Lord always.
I will say it again. Rejoice!”
Philippians 4:4.

That means let’s rejoice everyday that we have been saved. Let’s rejoice in song and prayers. Let’s rejoice by reading our Bible, sharing the Gospel, the good news, with others. We can rejoice as we see those who accept Christ have the eyes of their hearts opened by the Holy Spirit. And when our day to enter heaven arrives, we will rejoice then as well. Our great joy never has to end, only get better and better. The closer we come to eternity, the more we look forward to it, the more anxious we become to see You, Father.

Lord, we thank You for coming to this earth to save us and for the precious indwelling of Your Holy Spirit, giving us faith and strengthening it. We rejoice  in Your love for us and look forward to the day all Your children will rejoice in heaven together with all the angels, as we gaze upon You with love and in praise, knowing all Your promises are true and have brought us home to You. In Jesus’ holy name we pray! Amen.

Social scientists bear glad tidings for the holiday season. After extensively observing how people respond to gifts, they have advice for shoppers: You don’t have to try so hard.
You’re not obliged to spend hours finding just the right gift for each person on your list. Most would be just as happy with something quick and easy. This may sound too good to be true, but rest assured this is not a ploy by some lazy Scrooges in academia.

The most important thing about getting gifts and giving them is the fact that the GIFT we receive is the only Gift that we cannot live without...
the Son of God
who came to give us our eternal salvation!
