Today's Writing...6/13/18..."Finding Your Way"

Good Morning,

Today's offering is different from the usual writings we feature. It is an allegorical story about what might happen when we are leaving our human life and being taken to heaven. It is a very interesting imaginary take on what happens as we die and God greets us and leads us to heaven. Lynda wrote, "This allegorical little story is obviously not based on actual Scripture and does not intend to teach biblical truths.  It is just a series of thoughts that poured into my head one Sunday morning, as I rode the bus to church, looking at the houses in my neighborhood."

We hope you find this a charming and thought-provoking writing interesting!

 "Finding Your Way"

"Did you have any trouble finding your way here?  So many people do.   They waste so much time going back and forth, thinking that they must have missed a turn somewhere. They don't even stop to ask for directions or help of any kind.”  The Greeter, who opened the door said with a huge, welcoming smile with an unusual mix of exuberance and calm.

"Well, I almost missed it myself.  I nearly walked past but decided to go through the little side gate.  The name on the front is so... huge and the appearance from the road is so small and ...cottage -like."  The new one replied.

It was the most peculiar dwelling.  When seen from the road, it was just a tiny, abandoned, one room house.  Surrounded by so many large trees, the sage green walls and deep brown trim almost appeared to have grown from the woods themselves.  And with each step up the clean-swept path, which seemed to sparkle with golden flecks, the walls expanded and grew upwards, and the new one felt as if the size of the house multiplied somehow.

The Greeter stepped into the covered porch, gesturing towards the two broad-bottom rocking chairs that barely fit in the space.  But as soon as the new one sat in one, the porch seemed to expand, leaving room for the countless rocking chairs that suddenly appeared and had more than enough room for many more.

The Greeter said, "Yes, that does confuse so many people,” looking a bit saddened by that thought.  "Their expectations won’t allow them to fully trust the directions they've been given. Even some who have read and re-read them to the point of memorization.  They just don't allow for the  simplicity of things."

The Greeter seemed momentarily lost in thought, but then smiled in such a beautiful way that the new one felt as if the evening sky and the shadows from the surrounding trees were overwhelmed by a light that was brighter than the sun on a cloudless day at noon.  The smile was expansive and all-inclusive, and yet completely intimate at the same time.

"I am so pleased that you found your way to Us.  Not that I didn't know when you would arrive.  But greeting you at the door is my special moment with you.  And this door is yours and yours alone."

The new one smiled back, uncertainty. Not the quickest thinker under normal circumstances; and these circumstances were extraordinary.  The "directions” had been followed as closely as possible.  There were parts that seemed to make no sense at all, and others that were not easy, but were actually quite simple.  The hard part had been giving up the need to understand how they would get you where you so desperately needed to go. And realizing that while your steps were your choice, you were never alone on the journey, unless you expected to be.

The two sat in comfortable silence for a time.  The new one slowly relaxing, letting the long journey ease it's talon-like grip from each muscle.  It seemed to have become stronger during the last part, as if the new one's own body was trying to prevent this long-awaited arrival.

Gradually, as the evening seemed to reset itself, with the blue sky darkening just a bit with each blink of an eye and the sun's razor sharpness becoming slightly smudged around the edges; the last memory of life's pain melted away.

The new one sighed, as the echo of their troubling thoughts disappeared with a small 'pop', like a soap bubble carried on the evening breeze.

The Greeter gave a loud clap of their hands and stood up quickly.  "Now you are ready to enter your mansion!"
