Sunday Writing... 6/17/18... PERFECT FATHER

Good morning!

Today is Father's Day and our writing is entitled "PERFECT FATHER."  In it we read about the characteristics many would ascribe to a great if not perfect father.  But who could measure up?  Read on to find out.

May your Father's Day be blessed,
Jan and Corinne

Today's Devotional:
"PERFECT FATHER"
by
Jan Andersen

Today, the third Sunday of June, many countries celebrate Father’s Day.  It is a day set aside to honor fathers, fatherhood, or even those who exhibit paternal or fatherly characteristics and actions.

Here are some of those characteristics of what some consider the perfect father: teaches values such as responsibility/appreciation/honesty/integrity/respect of wife and mother; he protects; provides; nurtures; is generous; disciplines; instills self-confidence; is supportive/loyal/involved; encourages; knows how to create fun; is understanding; is a role model; gives unconditional love; but is human.

We all know there is no perfect human father.  But we all have a perfect heavenly Father, God!  He has adopted us into his family.  He teaches us through his Word, provides all things for us, protects us from ultimate destruction, nurtures us through fellowship with other Christians, disciplines us yet loves us unconditionally and provided his only Son as a sacrifice for our sins!  He even gives us the gift of his Holy Spirit through baptism to create faith in our hearts.  All we need to do is not reject his free gift of forgiveness and salvation, and we remain his adopted children.  We can run to him and call him “Daddy!”

1 John 3:1-3 (ESV) See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.  Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.  And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.

"How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!  And that is what we are!  The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him."

Dear Father in heaven, we give you honor on this Father’s Day!  Help us to glorify you with our words and actions as we interact with others.  Help us to show them that you are a loving and perfect Father, so that they might know you better.  Thank you for providing every good gift to us, your children, even though we do not deserve it, especially for your merciful forgiveness of all our sins.  Thank you, Daddy!  In Jesus’ name,  Amen.
