Good Morning
I am sharing the words to a writing called Franciscan Benediction which is applied to the idea that God allows challenges to come into our lives to show/teach us how to be more effective as we relate to others who are suffering and know how to help them. I was taken by the words of this wonderful writing and found it very meaningful.
I pray that the writing heightens our understanding of life trials and help us to know what we can do to be helpful.

"Franciscan Benediction"

Today a guest pastor came and preached at our church. As a part of his message, he read this Franciscan blessing/benediction, and the words just spoke to my heart as an encouragement of what I want and should be praying for, seeking, and desiring in my own life. We all desire to follow God’s heart for justice, live for Him, and live out what this blessing speaks about. I hope you will be encouraged by the words of His Benediction/blessing.
A Franciscan Benediction
May God bless us with discomfort at easy answers, half-truths, and superficial relationships, so that we may live deep within our hearts.
May God bless us with anger at injustice, oppression, and exploitation of people, so that we may work for justice, freedom, and peace.
May God bless us with tears to shed for those who suffer from pain, rejection, starvation, and war, so that we may reach out our hands to comfort them and turn their pain into joy.
And may God bless us with enough foolishness to believe that we can make a difference in this world so that we can do what others claim cannot be done.
Amen.
God uses things that cause discomfort so that we can get a better understanding of the challenges of life and the work to do something about these challenges as we reach out fellow travelers who are suffering what we suffer and become part of a wave of people who want to change the world. Hope we all can join the line!
