Good Morning,
The theme of Carol Steficek's writing today concerns our reason for doing good. Do we do it to receive attention and approval, or do it in a way that is hidden and unseen? We should do it to bless God and not to receive temporal blessings. The blessings will be given to us in heaven. Carol wrote, "The next time you are about to do something, look first at your heart and make sure you are serving the Lord, not yourself. It's what people don't see that counts." This is a good word!
Trying to do good works in secret,

"DON'T BE SEEN"
by
Carol Steficek
"Be careful not to do your
'acts of righteousness'
before men, to be seen by them.
If you do, you will have no reward
from your Father in heaven."
Matthew 6:1
One of the facts that amazes me most is that sometimes a person will die and it is only then that we read in the newspaper or hear on the news what a great philanthropist the person was. We never know how they donated much of their time and money to charities and organizations to help other people.
Jesus was like this. He would frequently slip away after performing a miracle so as not to be seen. Or he would tell the person He helped not to tell others about Him. He hid from the majority of the people, especially from the establishment.
Jesus focused on the "attitude of the heart." He didn't do things to be honored by men. He came to do the will of His Father in heaven. He also warns us to live the same way.
We are to do good things for other people, support missions with our money, and all the ways we serve Him...but not to be seen by others and recognized and congratulated for all our work. We are to do it quietly for Him.
The next time you are about to do something, look first at your heart and make sure you are serving the Lord, not yourself. It's what people don't see that counts.

When we can really act in a way that shows we are concentrating
on the attitude, mind, and heart of Jesus, we are truly on our way
to becoming more like Him.
to becoming more like Him.
