Good morning,
The theme of this devotional is friends. The title is "LETS BE FRIENDS." There are good friends and friends that turn out to be ones we should walk away from. This kind of friend is someone who will lead us somewhere we do not want to go. In the end we can end up liking things that we never liked before. The author wrote, "Ask God to help you with your friend selection. You need discernment from Him when choosing the people you'll be spending a great deal of time with. Choose a friend that would be a good prayer partner. Make a list of the qualities you most want in a friend and look for those characteristics in the people you meet."
Spend some time thinking about the characteristics you hope for in someone who might become a friend. Choose carefully.
Let God bless you through your friendships.

Have you ever met a person and felt like you just hit it off immediately? The person was easy to talk to and made you feel good, or maybe they made you laugh a lot. You decide you'd like to cultivate a friendship, and you start "hanging out."

"LETS BE FRIENDS"
As the friendship progresses you find yourself doing things that make you uncomfortable. It could be going to certain movies with content you never cared to see before. Your new friend loves them though, so you make a few exceptions and before you know what happened, those movies no longer repulse you. In fact, you rather enjoy them.
Maybe the new person you meet is a party girl. She loves going to parties and drinking too much alcohol. Her behavior embarrasses you, but she's such a good friend when she isn't partying. Before you realize what's happening, you're partying right along with her and getting a bit crazy also.
Maybe the new person enjoys a bit too much physical contact with almost any man she meets. By the time you fully realize it, you've become close friends. You see how much she enjoys it and you decide to give it a try yourself.
In any of these scenarios, or various others, you would find yourself on a path going the opposite direction of what you had been on and wanted to be on. Suddenly you are overcome with shame and guilt, feeling out of touch with the Lord. You realize how far you have strayed and ask God for His forgiveness which He mercifully grants.
Choosing friends is a very important decision in life. We want our friends to be believers in Christ too and share the same morals and standards as other children of God. There are even warnings in Scripture concerning friend selection.
"The righteous should choose his friends carefully,
for the way of the wicked leads them astray."
Proverbs 12:26.
Of course God forgives us, but the best thing is to avoid that type of behavior in the first place. Ask God to help you with your friend selection. You need discernment from Him when choosing the people you'll be spending a great deal of time with.
Choose a friend that would be a good prayer partner. Make a list of the qualities you most want in a friend and look for those characteristics in the people you meet. Don't rush, because you want to be able to share your faith and the values that come with it, not lose them.
"Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful."
Psalm 1:1.
Dear Father, please help us in choosing our friends. Let us see the qualities possessed by the people we meet, making it easier to decide whether or not to pursue a friendship. First and foremost, may they be believers in You, Lord. We trust You to keep us ever aware and alert to signs of what we want most in a friend. Let us follow Your path for us, that we might not be led into sin. In Jesus' name. Amen.
