Good Morning,

Today's Devotional was written by Jan Andersen. The title is, "PIECED TOGETHER" and she writes about how we are broken.  But no matter how broken we feel, God pieces us back together for his glory.

"PIECED TOGETHER"

Jan Andersen

Sometimes we may feel utterly broken.  We may have great plans for our future, with years of preparation and expense, yet in the end those plans seem to have failed.  That makes us wonder if we have gone down the wrong path.  Perhaps we have been married an thought we were doing the right things, yet it seems destined to fall apart.  We may then feel rejected or like we failed somehow.  Maybe our lives are going along great when suddenly horrific tragedy strikes, and we feel abandoned by others or even by God.  Or possibly we have thoughts or actions that continually pull at us and keep us from doing the things we ought to be doing.  It may be so strong that it is an addiction.  Then the more we stay to stop it, the worse it becomes until we have sunk so low we feel we can never get back up again.  When we feel broken, we may feel as though we are worthless and discarded.  Feelings of brokenness can be devastating.

Psalm 31:12b (NIV)  I am forgotten by them as though I were dead; I have become like broken pottery.

But our Lord and Savior never throws us away.  He can use us when we are broken.  In fact when we are in our weakest most defeated state, sometimes then we are the most useful for his purposes.  We learn and grow through our trials.  As we turn to him and lean on his strength and power to carry us through, we witness to his great mercy.  When he heals our wounds and lifts us up again, we have a unique perspective and can reach out to other broken souls.  No matter how shattered we feel, God still loves us and has use for us. He restores us and brings us peace with his presence.

2 Corinthians 13:11, 13 (NIV)  Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice!  Strive for full restorations, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace.  And the God of love and peace will be with you... May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

There is beauty in our brokenness.  When God pieces us back together again, he is like a stained glass artist.  Individual shards of colored glass may appear useless and even dangerous, but soldered together in a pleasing pattern by a master at his craft, they become a beautiful piece of art.  And when God shines forth from within us, it is then that we are the most beautiful.  Praise God for my brokenness and being pieced together by Him!

Dear Father Creator in heaven, We thank you for making us so beautiful, even in our broken state.  Help us to see that even in our weaknesses we are loved and can be useful as we are pieced together by you and shine your light to the world.  Use us to your glory.  In Jesus' name we pray,  Amen.

  1. Thank you for this devotion. My daughter' husband was killed in Afghanistan one month ago. I am helping her pick up the pieces of her life and rebuild. I'm reading Nehemiah and last night I prayed for God to rebuild the brokenness of our lives in His beautiful time. I sense that this devotion this morning is confirmation from God that He will indeed bring beauty from ashes and restore her to wholeness and an amazing future as she holds onto Him.

    1. Thank you for this comment "Anonymous." It means so much to Jan and to Women's Focus Ministries that a post was just what your daughter and you needed to read knowing that it is a confirmation that God will lead her into a place that He has planned for her. The writers of WFM will be praying for your daughter and for you as well. God bless you and your family.
