Do you enjoy music? Do you like to sing? Our writing today, "REJOICE WITH SINGING," talks about singing to God, and who does that singing, as well as what God does for us. May you be blessed as you think on these things. And don't miss the awesome recording following the devotion of Regi Stone's account of a pastor's wife who came out of a coma, and then his singing of a beautiful song he wrote!
Blessings,
Jan

Today's Devotional:
"REJOICE WITH SINGING"
by
Jan Andersen
Singing in the Bible is associated with rejoicing for what God has done. Many of the Psalms say to sing to God, serving him with gladness, thanksgiving, rejoicing and praise. Some of us love to sing. Sometimes it is only in private or in the shower, other times in the car with the radio. A few of us even enjoy singing with others. Singing in church is a form of our praise and worship. When we praise God, we are telling others how great he is. When we worship God, we are telling God how grateful we are for his love and mercy for us and for the forgiveness he has given us through the sacrifice of his Son. All of it is rejoicing, celebrating our delight in God’s goodness.
We can sing to God even when we are going through difficult times. It not only serves to show Him our gratitude in all things (which is worship), but it also can serve as a witness to others (which is praise). Paul and Silas rejoiced in prayers and songs to God when they were thrown into prison, which was a great witness to the other prisoners and to the prison guard. Rejoicing with singing can lighten our load and lift our own spirits when we are troubled, as the words can soothe our own aching hearts.
We see that people rejoice with singing in the Bible, but we also see that the angels in heaven sing His praises. Even the the mountains of earth and all that God has created rejoice! However, the most beautiful thing about singing is that even God sings - and he is singing to us!
Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV) The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with his love, He will rejoice over you with singing.
This verse is so full of comfort! It says all these things: God is with us - always. God is mighty and saves us - no matter what we have done. God takes great delight in us - he is joyful that we are his, despite our disobedience. God will quiet us with his love - we are comforted in his reassuring arms. And God rejoices over us with singing - he makes a joyful noise even to us, his dear children!
Dear Lord in heaven, we rejoice with singing for all that you have done for us, including your own songs of rejoicing over us! We especially sing your praises for your forgiveness of our shortcomings, your support and guidance through rough times, and all of your wonderful blessings, especially the gift of eternal life in heaven with you. Help us to make a joyful noise to you in all circumstances, providing a witness to others, and lifting our spirits as we rest in your loving arms. Therefore with all the company of heaven we rejoice and praise your glorious name! In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

Rejoice and singing -- those 2 words alone just make me feel so good. This is a lovely post as all of your posts have such meaning and lovely incite to them. You offer such happiness and encouragement. I have for years loved a passage that you find in [Psalm 137:2... We hung our harps upon the willows in the midst of it. For there those who carried us away captive asked of us a song, and those who plundered us requested mirth, Saying, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion” How shall we sing the Lord’s song in a foreign land?] But God gave us singing and rejoicing to help us in those times. Thank you so much for this lovely writing Jan.
