Today is our national Veterans Day in the U.S. Today's devotional writing, "SOLDIERS," talks about all the different types of soldiers that we have, and how each one of us is a type of soldier. If you happen to know some soldier veterans of any type, remember to thank them for their service. May we all bring glory to God in our service to Him.
Blessings,
Jan

Today's Devotional:
"SOLDIERS"
by Jan Andersen
Today is Veterans Day in the U.S. It is a day set aside to honor our military veterans for their dedicated service to our country. They may have served on land or in the air or on the seas (though "soldier" often refers to the army, it can apply to all military.) Their service may have been decades ago, or just this past year. The service they provided may have been on a front line or in an office. The time they spent in service may have been very short or extended over many years. No matter when and in what capacity they served, our veterans deserve our special thanks, as do our currently serving soldiers.
There are some other soldiers we need to remember - those who serve in the army of Jesus, soldiers of the cross. Our ministers have dedicated their lives to serving their commander, God. Each of us has likely benefited in many ways from the pastors that have touched our lives. They share the Gospel with us and teach us how to apply God's word to our daily lives. They pray with and support us over "hill and dale." In fact, each one of us has a unique ministry here on earth. God gives us each gifts to be used to his glory in the furthering of his Kingdom. We are all soldiers for the Lord.
Our war is not fought as soldiers in flesh and blood with weapons designed to kill, but rather it is a war against the arguments of those who do not believe in God. We don’t capture and imprison the enemy, but instead we share the love of God and our faith in Jesus with all.
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 ESV For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.
Dear Father and commander in Heaven, please give us the strength and the courage to be dedicated soldiers of the cross in the battleground here on earth. Thank you for giving us the victory of everlasting life in Jesus Christ. Help us to deliver the news of this gift to others. May we always be grateful for the gifts of your Holy Spirit and use them to your glory. In the name of Jesus, whose death and resurrection gives us the victory in heaven. Amen.
