Friday Writing..."Be A Peacemaker"...4/13/18

Good Morning,

Today the topic of this devotional is the role of Jesus as "Prince of Peace" and our responsibility to follow the lead of His example. Karen wrote, "We won’t be at rest without letting go of all anger and hurt, or guilt, and replacing it with forgiveness. We give it all to You, dear Jesus, knowing Your peace will follow."

Heaven is our home! Peace be with you!

"Be A Peacemaker"
by
Karen Bennett

The Bible is filled with verses on peace. Jesus was given the name Prince of Peace, which immediately tells us the value God places on peace. Jesus greeted his disciples with, “Peace be with you”, when He met with them after His resurrection. He said He gives peace, not as the world gives, but His peace.

The world we live in today is far from peaceful. It’s charged with evil and danger in many forms, hatred, greed, dissent, betrayal, and on and on. All things that are not of God have been present since the Garden of Eden was entered by satan in the form of a snake and his temptation of Adam and Eve was successful. Peace and tranquility all but disappeared.

Yet, it is still possible to find peace, that prevailing peace, a peace that passes all understanding, a peace that fills our beings and is found only in Jesus by putting our total trust in Him. Follow Jesus and that peace is ours, a truly wonderful and wonder-filled blessing. It’s the calm that lets us face all things through Him.

 “The fruit of righteousness will be peace;
the effect of righteousness will be
quietness and confidence forever.”
Isaiah 32:17.

We take on the righteousness of Jesus when we are true believers. We’re no longer under the penalty of the law, but under grace, and are saved because of His death and resurrection. It calms our hearts because He gives us His peace and the knowledge of our future eternal life with Him.

Peace should be very important to us as well. If we’re feuding with anyone we should cease seeking revenge for a wrong we feel was committed against us. We should also never interfere in an argument between others, stirring up more hateful feelings which help to keep it alive. Pray for the situation, whether it’s us or someone else, to bring about a peaceful solution, and help others to do the same.

“Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called sons of God.”
Matthew 5:9.

That verse alone from the Beatitudes of Jesus in His Sermon On The Mount, clearly tells us that God loves and wants peace. It’s how He wanted man to live when He created him. We don’t want to carry on with arguments, hatred, grudges, or bad wishes. We don’t want to condemn the people of the world doing evil things. We want to say we’re sorry! We want to forgive and make peace to keep our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus, not to seek revenge! Vengeance belongs only to God. We leave it up to Him to repay. It’s sinful desire to want to get even or get one better and it can consume us and drag us away from our Lord rather than to Him.

“Dear friends, I urge you,
as aliens and strangers in the world,
to abstain from sinful desires,
which war against your soul.”
1 Peter 2:112:11

Let’s put far from us the desire to get even. Think of Jesus! Love Him and pray to Him!

Dear Lord, help us to be forgiving of heart and mind, and sorry too, as we seek Your gift of peace. We won’t be at rest without letting go of all anger and hurt, or guilt, and replacing it with forgiveness. We give it all to You, dear Jesus, knowing Your peace will follow. In Your name, we pray. Amen!

Heaven is our home! Peace be with you!

Jesus was known as the "Prince of Peace,"
and we are His family/followers. Family members

and followers share the example of their mentors.
and we
need to do this as the followers of Jesus
and also be instruments of peace on earth.
