Tuesday Writing by Sandy Billingham......6/20/17

Good morning,

Today Sandy Billingham asks the question, "And Who Is My Neighbor?" She looks at a couple she knows that had helped an injured man. She was impressed by their caring behavior. It reminds us of the story in the Bible of The Good Samaritan. Sandy wrote, "Being a Good Samaritan is to anyone that is in need that God puts across your path. That is who my neighbor is, and that is who I am to help and reach out to, whether I am in the mood or not."

God bless,
Sandy and Corinne

Today.s Devotional
"And Who Is My Neighbor?"

I walk in our neighborhood greenbelt daily and through out years have come across a few wild things. A few days ago as I was walking, I looked down on the trail and saw a man laying face down and sprawled out. I honestly not sure whether or not he was alive. I yelled, "Dude are you alright?" several times until finally he responded to me. He looked up at me and answered in a somewhat crude way, "Well yeah," then laid back down. I said to him, "You scared me!" and continued to walk. My neighbor was just a few feet behind me, and she walked up to the man very sweetly and kindly and said, " Are you OK, can I help you?" And then the man got up and walked away and left his wallet and keys behind.

My second time around the greenbelt I saw Rene' and she told me all that transpired and that she and her husband would see to it that the wallet was taken care of. On my way home, I pondered on what just happened....All I was concerned of was that the man was breathing, but Rene' went a step further to reach out to him and ask if she could help him in any way.

That brought my thoughts to the Good Samaritan. A certain man was badly beaten by thieves leaving him half dead. A certain priest saw him and walked on the other side. And shortly after a Levite came and looked and passed by on the other side.

Scripture tells us...

"But a certain Samaritan,
as he journeyed, came where he was.
And when he saw him, he had compassion. So he went to him
and bandaged his wounds,
pouring on oil and wine;
and he set him on his own animal,
brought him to an inn,
and took care of him."
 Luke 10:33-34,

Rene' was that Good Samaritan. She stopped and was willing to do whatever it took to help him. She reached out with great compassion. Shortly after, her and husband went to his house and returned his wallet and keys and contacted emergency staff to check on him, making sure he would be safe.
Now me on the other hand, I just stopped long enough to make sure he was breathing and then I went on my merry way. I was not the Good Samaritan but fell more in the category of a little bit Priest and a little bit Levite.
I learned a very valuable lesson that day. Being a Good Samaritan is to anyone that is in need that God puts across your path. That is who my neighbor is, and that is who I am to help and reach out to, whether I am in the mood or not. Rene' modeled that well.

So which one was a good Samaritan that day, and what must we do?

"He who showed mercy on him."
Then Jesus said to him,
"Go and do likewise."
Luke 10:37
