Sunday Devotional......8/21/16

Good Morning...

Saturday we went to a Hot Air Balloon Festival. It was in a park in the city of Lewiston. There were lots of people there and we walked around checking things out. There was a medieval area with all kinds of crafts and some jousting and  fencing going on. The top attraction was to be the blowing up of several hot air balloons and to watch them take off. However, it was quite windy, and they kept postponing it. Finally at 7 PM they cancelled it because the wind was making it unsafe. We bought sausage sandwiches. ate them, and then headed home. The people watching was fun and interesting. Watching the children playing was very entertaining. There was one little girl of about six or seven who must be taking gymnastics, She was doing her stunts for more than an hour and a half. She must have been one tired little princess when she finally fell into bed. Ir is uplifting to see people enjoying the gifts that God has given them.

Today, Sunday is the family reunion. I have been to them a couple of times before when I was in Maine. There are usually 50+ people who come, This time we will also celebrate the birthday of Storm's stepdad, Gene. He will have a birthday cake that says older than dirt...LOL. This will be a surprise to Gene.

My Sunday will be busy. I hope your day will also be filled with good things,
God bless
Corinne

Today's devotional is written by Jan Andersen. The title is "SUNRISE AND SUNSET and it speaks about Psalm 113, where it states God's name will be praised from the rising of the sun until it sets. Jan wrote, " We grow in character and in our dependence upon God while giving thanks and praise to him for his help to make it through and for his forgiveness of our shortcomings.  This not only benefits us, but the reflection of God in our lives, like the sunset reflecting on the clouds, witnesses to others of God's great grace and mercy."

"SUNRISE AND SUNSET"
written by
Jan Andersen

Here in Arizona, during the monsoon season of summer, the gathering clouds reflect the sun at sunrise and sunset with an amazing array of colors.  God is an awesome painter of skies.  His palette is a mixture of red, orange and yellow on a canvas of blue.  While the clouds can bring storms that cause problems, they are what create the many hues from the rising and setting sun.  Without the clouds, as it often is the rest of the year in AZ, there are only blue skies.  That is pretty in itself, and possibly desired in other areas of the nation, but not nearly as impressive as this:

(I took this photo of the sunset at my house two evenings ago, stretching from east to west, on 8/19/16)

The same could be said of our lives.  Our skies hold many clouds, such as family problems, job difficulties, health issues, tragedies, unhealthy dependencies, and such.  Some of us wish for only blue skies.  But if all we knew were good times with no issues, crises or problems, we could easily become complacent and not see the need for having God in our lives.  As we navigate through our challenges, God is there for us to help us survive and even thrive in our daily lives.  We grow in character and in our dependence upon God while giving thanks and praise to him for his help to make it through and for his forgiveness of our shortcomings.  This not only benefits us, but the reflection of God in our lives, like the sunset reflecting on the clouds, witnesses to others of God's great grace and mercy.

Psalm 113:1-3 (NIV)  Praise the Lord.  Praise the Lord, you his servants; praise the name of the Lord.  Let the name of the Lord be praised, both now and forevermore.  From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord is to be praised.

Thank you Lord, Jesus, for being with us through both blue skies and storms, and for your forgiveness when we have gone astray.  Help us to continue to rely upon you in all things and to give you unending praise so that others may see your beautiful reflection on our clouds of life.  You are our awesome artist, painting a beautiful story on the canvas of our lives.  May we praise your name forever.  In your name, Amen.
