"ANGELS IN OUR MIDST"

"Always walk with an awareness of your angels around you." That is a quote from our church pastor given about 20 years ago. It was comforting then, but is even more so today. With all the dangers we face in this present age it is heartening to realize that we do have powerful angelic beings assigned to protect us.

 Psalm 91:11 (NLT) says,
"For He orders His angels to protect you wherever you go."

Psalm 34:7 (NLT) declares,
"For the angel of the Lord guards all
who fear Him and He rescues them."

There are myriads of reports of angelic intervention in times of distress and crisis. I can only speak from personal experience. About 30 years ago our children were very young and my husband was out of town on a business trip. At the time we lived far from the security and comfort of extended family around us. We also lived in a somewhat isolated area. Needless to say my husband was concerned about our safety during his absence. The Lord truly reassured him, however, once and for all, of His Divine hand of protection over his brood.

Upon his return to our home, my husband literally saw four gigantic soldier like angels standing at attention on the corners of our property. They were brass in color and were taller than our two story house. What peace and comfort that sight brought to my husband, seeing first hand that God's power and might is a force to be reckoned with.

I also had a recent experience that assured me that angels are real and truly do watch over us. Last summer I was hanging clothes out on the line to dry. I was rather foolishly  using a nearby flimsy lawn chair as a step stool. Sure enough, the chair tipped over beneath me and gravity attempted to have its way. I headed toward the pavement but experienced a remarkable sensation on the journey downward. It was as though I was being girded up from underneath my body. I fell so slowly it was incredible. I swayed gently from side to side and floated softly to the ground. I was in no way hurt. Without a shadow of a doubt I know that I was being supported by invisible allies ...... my angels.

Psalm 91:12 (NKJV)  became a reality for me....
"In their hands" (referring to angels)
"they shall bear you up,
lest you dash your foot against a stone."

It seems that the longer you walk with the Lord the more you can trust that His Word is reliable and true. There are numerous scriptures on angels and those verses will not fail you.

I have heard a teaching which rings true to my heart. If we want to activate our angels we
should pray and speak God's promises of faith over our life situations. As we declare God's Word the angels will move to bring those positive circumstances to pass.

Psalm 103:20 (KJV) says,
"Bless the Lord, ye His angels that excel in strength,
that do His commandments, hearkening unto the voice of His Word."

To the contrary, I believe that negative words filled with fear, doubt, and unbelief, can actually bind up our angels, and hinder their effectiveness. So each day we can dispatch angels to go forth to guard, guide, and to deliver ourselves and our loved ones.

The Bible warns us not to worship angels, however. Angels are created beings. Only the Creator Himself is worthy of our adoration. In the book of Revelation an angel showed the apostle John future events. John wanted to worship the messenger from God but he was warned not to.

"I John, am the one who saw and heard all these things.
And when I saw and heard these things,
I fell down to worship the angel who showed them to me.
But again he said, 'No, don't worship me.
I am a servant of God, just like you
and your brothers the prophets,
as well as all who obey what is written in this scroll.
Worship God!' "
Revelation  22:8-9 (NLT)

We can thank God for His "ministering spirits" who are sent to help us in our daily lives. As "heirs of salvation" we can be most grateful for God's supernatural "secret service" force which envelops us day and night.

Hebews 1:14 (NIV)
"Are not all angels ministering spirits
sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?"

My Personal Angel

On the day before school started my mother and her sister took my cousin and me for one last time at the beach before school opened. The year was either 1948 or 49. The beach was closed meaning no life guards were there. My cousin is four years older than I. We were frolicking in the water...which was a river side beach and to the left was a bridge. I guess the tide was low. In our playing around my cousin stepped off into the boat channel in front of the bridge. She started yelling and dog paddling. I yelled, I will save you, Sally.  (I was five or six) Soon I was in the channel dog paddling as well.

My aunt was a very large woman...perhaps about 300 lbs. and my mother had a fear of water due to a couple of incidents in her childhood. My aunt never made it to the water, and my mother's canvas sandal was only wet at the toe.

From the back side of the beach a woman appeared. In those days many women were still wearing house dresses and killer underwear like corsets that had to be laced etc. This woman was well dressed including black tied, fat heal shoes that used to be called "school teacher" shoes. She went running into the water fully clothed and brought the two of us to shore and handed us off to our mothers. They had been terrified, and, when we got to them, they started loving on us and wrapping us in towels to warm up.

My mother finally realized that they needed to thank the woman for what she did. She looked up and visually searched the entire beach. The woman was nowhere to be seen. My mother believed and now I believe that the woman was an angel. We probably would have drowned that day if it were not for her.

The picture that I inserted is Stone Bridge and we were probably in the side corner area closest to the bridge. The bridge was demolished and replaced with a fancy new modern one in the late 50's. It was high tide in this picture; on that day it was low tide, and that was the reason we could walk out to where the boat channel was.
