"LIFE'S WORTH"
by
Jan Andersen
How important is my life? That might depend upon the perspective. To those close to me who love me, my life means a lot to them. but to those who have never even met or heard of me, what is my life to them? There might be some indirect or remote connection that could have an effect on them, but my life may be inconsequential to them. What about those who do not like me or even hate me? Perhaps they feel they would be happier if I were not alive or had never even been born.
From our own perspective sometimes we may feel our own lives are unworthy. Perhaps we have done things that have hurt other people. Or we may have broken promises that were extremely important, if not to us then to others. Some of us may feel that we have done things unconscionable and unforgivable. There may be great shame that accompanies these things, causing us to hide them from others or even from ourselves through denial.
But from God's perspective the worth of a life is immeasurable - yours, mine, everyone's - no matter what they may have done or not done. God sent his one and only Son to be born and live on earth so that he could die in our place as payment for our sins, no matter how big or how small those wrongdoings are. That's how much your life is worth. It is worth dying for from God's perspective. Everyone's life is equally important to God, and he desires salvation for all, including those who have done horrible things. Even the lives of rapists and murderers can be saved if they don't reject God's free gift of faith and forgiveness. True faith transforms lives into a new creation.
2 Corinthians 5:17-19 (NIV) Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message reconciliation.

Dear Father in heaven, thank you for seeing my life as one worth dying for as payment for all that I have done wrong. You have created a new me - a redeemed child of God. Help me to see all other believers as your forgiven servants as well, and to see unbelievers simply as those that need to hear the message of your loving forgiveness. May I be your servant and messenger to a hurting world. In Jesus' name, Amen.
