Good Morning,
"Take the Risk, Walk in Faith" is the devotional written by Diane Sutton for today. Diane does quite a bit of outreach in various places talking to people about God and finding out if they would like prayer. She has met many people in the times she she has gone out with other prayer warriors. She says that it feels risky to talk to people, but often they are receptive to talking to someone in the group. Diane wrote, "Let us take the risk to walk in faith no matter where God wants us to go. We need to risk looking foolish to the world in order to walk with Jesus into parks and shopping malls or going house-to-house delivering God’s messages of healing, comfort, encouragement, love and hope."
Have a terrific Tuesday, and please pray for our country.
God bless

"Take the Risk,
Walk in Faith"
On
Sunday, I attended an informal church service in a local park. As we were
singing praises and worshipping God, a park employee came to empty the trash
cans in our area. He seemed to linger, listening to our worship. I was led by
God to go over and speak with him. After the man heard the words of God’s
encouragement and love, he said they touched his heart and confirmed what he
had been feeling lately. We ended our conversation in prayer. A little later
our small church group went into the park to minister to whomever we met. We prayed healing for a man who has been diagnosed
with cancer and then prayed for another man who needed healing for an acute infection
in his body.
As we
take the risk to walk with God in faith, we most likely will look foolish to others
and mocked as well for not conforming to the ways of the world. As Christians we
will not see miracles or healings if we are unwilling to take a risk to act in
faith. Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as “Now
faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
This chapter of Hebrews also shows us that if we act in faith we will not only witness
astonishing events but also be used by God in ways we cannot imagine.
Let us be like Enoch who by faith
was taken from this life, did not experience death because he was one who
pleased God. We learn that without faith it is impossible to please God,
because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists. We please God by
walking in faith and obedience.
Let us be like Noah, who when warned
about things not yet seen (the flood), in faith built an ark to save his family
exactly as God had instructed. Even though people mocked Noah, he faithfully completed
the ark in preparation for the flood that God said would come. I wonder how
many times Noah may have been tempted to stop building the ark, thinking how
foolish this must look to his neighbors and friends. Yet it was the worldly unbelieving
people who died in the flood.
Let us be like Abraham who faithfully
obeyed God by going to a place (he would later receive as his inheritance) even
though he did not know where he was going. Then by faith he made his home in
the land promised to him by God as a stranger in a foreign country. Later his wife Sarah, who was past
childbearing age, had faith in the promise God made to her that she would be
able to have children. Because of their faith came descendants as numerous as
the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.
Let us take the risk to walk in
faith no matter where God wants us to go. We need to risk looking foolish to
the world in order to walk with Jesus into parks and shopping malls or going
house-to-house delivering God’s messages of healing, comfort, encouragement,
love and hope.
