Tuesday Writing by Diane Sutton.....12/20/16

Good Morning,

The name of today's writing is "Light of the World," and was written by Diane Sutton. At first I wondered why she was writing about the Magi when we are still in the time before Christmas Day. Then as I read it I realized that the point is well taken at any time. The theme of this writing is that while the Magi had bright starlight to follow to find Jesus,  the star no longer lights our way to Him. Now we are the lights to show people how to find Jesus, because we have the light in our soul that can lead others to Jesus. Diane wrote, "Let us remember that we are the Lamp of the Lord, burning brightly, showing the way to the Messiah born so many years ago. As we celebrate the birth of our Savior, let us be the bright star others can follow."

Five more days until the celebration of Jesus coming to begin the process of our salvation. Hope you are able to keep the "Reason for the Season" uppermost in your minds. Please pray for our country.

God bless,
Corinne and Diane

"Light of the World"

After Jesus was born, the Magi saw when his star rose. They traveled a great distance following the star that was ahead of them until it stopped over the place where Jesus was in Bethlehem.  When they saw the star, they were overjoyed because they had come to worship the Messiah.

When I am away from the city lights, I love gazing upwards at the bright stars.  I wonder how the Magi felt traveling and trusting that the Star would lead them to their Messiah as had been prophesied. Did they get tired of traveling? At a point in time did they think they would not find the Messiah? Did they even think of turning back? The Magi traveled a long distance and a very long time before reaching the Messiah. They were driven with a quest to find and worship the child Jesus, to give Him their best gifts. The Star gave them a light to follow and a hope for things to come.

Today we do not have a physical star high above in the sky to guide us to Jesus, but there is a light that glows within us called the Holy Spirit. Scripture says
The human spirit is the lamp of the Lord that sheds light on one’s inmost being.” Proverbs 20:27

Many see the Light that is within us – one that burns brightly because we follow Jesus Christ. The Light shows our inmost being, the being that displays the character of Jesus.

 You, Lord, keep my lamp burning;
my God turns my darkness into light.”
Psalm 18:28

Let us remember that we are the Lamp of the Lord, burning brightly, showing the way to the Messiah born so many years ago. As we celebrate the birth of our Savior, let us be the bright star others can follow, turning people’s darkness into light as they are shown the way to Christ.
