Good Morning...
Today I just did some things that I needed to do...mundane uninteresting things. However, I went to my Writing class. I never cease to be amazed when my class members read the amazing things that they have written. We had a couple of prompts to write about. Everyone came up with different takes on the topics. It is a real pleasure to be there and hear these talented people read what they have written. After that I stopped off to visit my cousin, Sally. Shame on me I had not called or visited her since I got back from Maine. I seemed to be in slow motion on my reentry. I enjoyed visiting Sally. We were practically brought up side by side. I guess you could define it as "sisters from a different mother."

Sandy Billingham titled the devotional she wrote, "Out Of The Box." Basically she is inviting us to be creative and original in how we do what we do. When that happens growth happens and learning spirals upward. She said that Jesus often ministered and taught with thinking that was outside the box. Sandy wrote, "He may want us to do differently. Sit at His feet and wait upon Him. Let Him show us how He wants to reveal His "out of the box" creative ideas in which to touch a world that desperately needs Him.

"Out Of The Box"
As Jesus ministered to thousands and thousands of people, we can safely attest to the fact that His life was never boring or ordinary. As Jesus walked the earth He was ready to always please His Father and never turned away from those in need. The interesting part of His ministry was that He changed things up on how He went about ministering and teaching. If you can recall the many experiences He had blessing people, He was always about the Father's business and it was always in fresh and new ways.
Let's take a look at the scripture out of Mark 8:22-25...
"Then He came to Bethsaida; and they brought a blind man
to Him, and begged Him to touch him. So He took the blind man
by the hand and led him out of the town.
And when He had spit on his eyes and put His hands on him,
He asked him if he saw anything. And he looked up and said,
'I see men like trees, walking.' Then He put his hands
on his eyes again and made him look up.
And he was restored and saw everyone clearly."
Jesus clearly had a peculiar but effective way in ministering to the blind man. And I am sure the blind man at the moment may have been taken back a bit having Jesus spit on His eyes. But on the other hand, being blind for a long time, and then being able to see, I am sure he was purely elated with the end result!
I would say Jesus ministered "out of the box". He ministered in ways we never would have thought of or dreamed of! After all, Jesus is a highly creative God. All we have to do is look around and see His magnificent creation!!
Maybe we have been in different ministries for years and doing things the same old way week after week. Possibly our prayer time has been the same rigid routine. Or what about how we approach our family, neighbors and strangers and co-workers and friends?
Maybe the Lord is wanting to birth something fresh and new in us and we are not allowing the change. Do you think He may be wanting us to do something "out of the box"?
My challenge to each of you and myself is to ask the Lord what it is He may want us to do differently. Sit at His feet and wait upon Him. Let Him show us how He wants to reveal His "out of the box" creative ideas in which to touch a world that desperately needs Him.
If it is from God, you can be assured that His life will be flowing through us and transformation will most definitely take place!
With Jesus directing our paths, every day can be an "out of the box" experience!!
Waiting on Him,
Sandy Billingham
